Katy Perry says 'good people' help handle fame

NEW YORK - KATY Perry believes keeping 'good people around' helps her deal with the pressures of being one of the world's biggest pop stars, which currently has her on a global concert tour and taking part in her first movie.

As the music world mourns the death of British singer Amy Winehouse, Perry told Reuters she is not tempted by the hedonistic lifestyle that has helped fuel the demise of talented performers before her.

Perry, whose hits include Teenage Dream and Firework, said she is able to stay away from the wild, party life with the help of honest, supportive people around her, such as her British actor/comedian husband Russell Brand, himself a recovering drug addict who is now clean and sober.

'I like to keep good people around me, people that aren't always 'yes' people, people that sometimes it's difficult to be around because they're not 'yes' people,' she told Reuters.

'My husband is definitely one of those, he keeps me accountable and, you know, he's not a fan, even though he is a fan...he supports me and loves me but he doesn't bullshit me, which is really important.'

The 26-year-old California native, who is one year younger than Winehouse, tweeted on Saturday when Winehouse was found dead in her London apartment, 'RIP Amy Winehouse. May she finally find peace'. -- REUTERS

John Boler, vice-president of sales and marketing at Summerfest, said Perry wasn't feeling well when she arrived. He said a doctor was provided to her during the day and the performance.

He said she performed beautifully despite being sick.

Devil talk banned in Katy Perry's childhood home

Katy Perry says she did not have a childhood with her evangelical minister parents, who allowed her to read only the Bible and even banned terms like'deviled eggs'.

NEW YORK - KATY Perry says she did not have a childhood with her evangelical minister parents, who allowed her to read only the Bible and even banned terms like'deviled eggs'.

'I didn't have a childhood,' Perry told Vanity Fair in an interview for its June edition. 'I come from a very non-accepting family, but I'm very accepting. Sometimes when children grow up, their parents grow up,' she said.

'Mine grew up with me. We coexist. I don't try to change them anymore, and I don't think they try to change me. We agree to disagree. They're excited about (my success).'

Perry, 26, rose to stardom in 2008 with her hit single I Kissed a Girl and by promoting herself as a sex kitten. Her first stab at a music career was through a gospel music album. But the cover of her latest hit Teenage Dream, features her lying naked on a pink cloud.

The Firework singer - who wants her ashes shot out over the California coast in a firework - said her friends had to sneak her CDs as a child because secular music was banned in her California home.

Phrases like 'deviled eggs' and the name of the vacuum cleaner Dirt Devil were also banned, and Perry said she was led to believe that the family planning group Planned Parenthood was only an abortion clinic.

'I was always scared I was going to get bombed when I was there ... I didn't know it was more than that, that it was for women and their needs. I didn't have insurance, so I went there and I learned about birth control,' she told Vanity Fair. -- REUTERS

Katy Perry's E.T beat was for Three 6 Mafia

Singer Katy Perry has revealed that the beat of her new album 'E.T' was for southern US hip hop group Three 6 Mafia. Her producers accidentally played her a beat that was not meant for her but she liked it so much so that she grabbed it.

“I remember writing with Max Martin and Dr. Luke, and they were just showing me different samples of songs or tracks or beats, and they accidentally pulled up this beat, and it was for Three 6 Mafia. I heard it and I always knew I wanted to write this futuristic, alienistic song, and I was like, 'Wait, I can wrap my head around this. I know this seems like a long shot, but I think I have the perfect material to put on top of this sound.' And I did, and it really worked out perfectly (sic),” Contactmusic quoted the singer as saying.

Katy Perry released the video of her album 'E.T.' yesterday. The album featuring Kanye West has songs like “California Gurls," "Firework" and the title track "I feel like I've done that”. It will hit the small screens tonight.
