Salma Hayek launches beauty line

SHOWBIZ - Some actresses are happy to front for a cosmetics house or perhaps even have their own scent, but Mexican beauty Salma Hayek has taken it to the next level by introducing a 100-piece skincare and cosmetics line called Nuance.

Selling at US pharmacy chain CVS, the just-launched range was inspired by Hayek’s grandmother, a cosmetologist who trained in Paris and lived till age 96 — apparently wrinkle-free!

Quick to dispel the notion she's merely an actress dabbling in beauty, Hayek explained to Women's Wear Daily, "I took three years off my [acting] career to work on this. This is not something that required 14 hours. Nooo, baby. This has been a full-time job."

The range is inspired by Native American and Mayan beauty treatments and aims to give consumers access to high-tech ingredients at low prices.

Salma is married to luxury magnate Francois-Henri Pinault, whose company owns Yves Saint Laurent, and she has previously held contracts with Avon and Revlon.

Nuance's sales projections are US$35 million annually.
